Troubled Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas remains confident he can cure his team’s problems and get their season 
back on the rails.
Last week’s loss to Liverpool meant it was the first time Chelsea had lost back to back home games since Roman Abramovich bought the club. And after the defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League the Blues have lost three of their last four games. It was a result which dented their hopes of making the knockout stages.
Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday and Villas-Boas is well aware of the pressure on himself and his team. Anything other than a return to winning ways would be seen as a deepening of the perceived crisis.
Newspaper reports claim Abramovich is growing impatient with a manager only appointed in the summer, but when asked how long he had to turn things around he said: “The contract is a three-year contract.”
However, he understands the speculation.
“Results in football are the key to a manager’s sustainability,” he said. “I have no problem with it. I didn’t come here to be failure. I came here to be a success.
“It’s a project of high expectations (in terms of results) and mine at the moment are negative. There is no running away from that. But that doesn’t mean that the project won’t continue or that we don’t have the talent to turn things around.
“It is legitimate that people are not happy, from fans to the media. Nobody wants to change that more than us.”
But Villas-Boas was noticeably riled by suggestions the current form was a mirror of last season, when Chelsea lost their way and Carlo Ancelotti lost his job.
“The philosophy and the way we are set out is not in question, whatsoever. That doesn’t mean we’re going to keep losing for three months.
“Why don’t you speak about the response after, the response that took Chelsea to within three points of the leader?
“Why don’t you speak of the ability of these players to transcend a negative period? Why not speak about that?
“Or that after Chelsea get the win they need, they may go on a winning streak like last year? Why don’t you?”
