Chelsea doctors have certified John Mikel Obi fit to take part at the World Cup, and will train with the Super Eagles on Friday, according to Media Officer Idah Peterside.
Mikel has been undergoing physiotherapy following surgery on his knee last month, raising doubts about his
availability for next month’s tournament.
The situation prompted the Nigeria federation to despatch its medical team to London to assess the player’s progress, and Peterside told KickOffNigeria.com that the outcome was good.
“He finished his final therapy session on Thursday and will join the team on Friday morning. He will train with the rest at 12h30 in the afternoon.
“The Chelsea doctors have assured us that they are releasing him to us full fit and from all the tests they have carried out, he looks good for the World Cup.”
Nigeria play a pre-World Cup friendly against Colombia on Sunday, but Peterside says it is up too Lars Lagerback to decide if the midfielder will feature.
“That is up to the coach. But he will be available for selection.”
Defender Onyekachi Apam is still restricted to gym work, according to Peterside.
