Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has challenged his strikers to catch Dimitar Berbatov in the search for twenty Premier League goals after the Bulgarian hitman struck his third hat-trick of the season in Saturday’s rout of Birmingham.
Berbatov’s league tally is now 17 and Javier Hernandez (nine) and Nani (eight) are closest with Wayne Rooney behind in the distance on three – two of them penalties.
Ferguson said: “Dimitar is getting up towards that 20-goal mark, which is going to be important for us.
“It does put a certain brand mark on the team and hopefully we will get another one to that level too.
“Once you do that you know it is a substantial season.
“Dimitar is realising his ability.
“The other players sense it too. They are playing their part in playing with him.
“He has special qualities. I think we are using them.”
