Barcelona hitman David Villa is keen to avenge last season’s Copa del Rey defeat to Real Madrid, despite the club’s victories in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
Barca pipped Real to the Spanish league title last term – their third in a row – and also eliminated their arch-rivals in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
However, Los Blancos got one over the Catalan side when they defeated them in the finale of the Copa del Rey thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo headed-goal in extra time.
While most would be satisfied with two out of three titles, Villa, who joined Barca from Valencia last summer, reveals the cup defeat has tarnished his memory of his debut campaign at the Nou Camp, and has set his sights on winning everything on offer this term.
“We want to win all the titles again that we won last term, and if possible, even more,” Villa said, according to Sport.
“Losing last year’s Copa del Rey final really was a bad experience.”
Thankfully for Villa, Barca will have an early chance to claim silverware this season.
First, they take on Real in a two-legged encounter with the Spanish Supercopa on the line, before they vie with Porto for the UEFA Super Cup on August 26.
With Barca’s pre-season campaign already in full swing, Villa sees no reason why the Catalan giants cannot claim both titles.
“There are two titles at stake in August and we have to make sure we’re well prepared.
“We have to be in good condition to be successful.
“Our pre-season so far has been quite good and all the hard work will pay off later this season.”
