Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas says he will make changes to his team to play Bayer Leverkusen with Sunday’s clash against Manchester United in mind.
The Blues begin their Champions League campaign against the German side on Tuesday, and the former Porto boss will have one eye on Sunday’s crunch trip to Old Trafford in his team selection.
“You’ll see some changes,” Villas-Boas said. “Then we’ll make wise decisions for Sunday.”
“It is very tight. Most of the players were away with their countries last week, we played at Sunderland on Saturday and now we have this European match.”
“We have only four days to recover for Old Trafford and this has to play a part in my team selection.”
“Hopefully we will make the right choices to win this game and the players will also be up to the level on Sunday.”
Manchester United, meanwhile, have left Rio Ferdinand out of the squad for their trip to play Benfica in Lisbon on Wednesday.
