Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu said that leaving Barcelona was not a tough decision for him as he wanted to face the new opportunity.
Romeu signed afour year contract with Chelsea in the first week of last month. The deal cost the English club a fee of €5 million.
Romeu was included in the nineteen-man squad Barcelona in August 2010 for the first leg of the season’s Spanish Supercup. He made his first La Liga appearance in May 2011.
“It was not hard to leave Barca,I am eager to face this new opportunity. When this offer came in, I thought about it a little, but then I had no doubts about accepting it.” Romeu said. “I did not talk to Guardiola about my future and Barcelona accepted the offer with no problem,” he said.
The 19-year-old claimed that Villas-Boas was interested to sign him when he was still at Porto. He added that he was aware about the expectations of hisnewboss.
“He wanted a new player because of [Michael] Essien’s injury, someone who can play in that position and I guess he expects me to improve with time.”
Romeu also played in the under-19 and under-20 national teams of Spain. He also made two appearances for Spanish under-21 in the current year.
