The Nigerian Football Federation say John Obi Mikel should be available for the World Cup, despite suffering ankle ligament damage.
The Chelsea midfielder looks set to miss the remainder of his club’s domestic campaign with the ankle problem, which he suffered in last week’s defeat at Tottenham.
Initial concerns were that the 23-year-old would also be sidelined for this summer’s tournament in South Africa.
NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire told the BBC: “Fortunately the damage does not limit his chances of playing at the World Cup as feared.”
The Super Eagles squad are set to meet for a training camp on May 21, before playing a friendly against Colombia in London on May 30.
Nigeria are drawn in Group B, alongside Argentina, Greece and South Korea, with the opening game against Diego Maradona’s men on June 12.
