Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that injury-plagued midfielder Owen Hargreaves will miss at least the next five weeks, having made an aborted comeback against Wolves at the weekend.
29-year-old Hargreaves has made only 39 appearances for Manchester United since arriving at Old Trafford three years ago from Bayern Munich for £17million, due to a series of injuries and had been out for almost two years with a knee problem.
He made his long awaited return at the weekend but limped off after only a few minutes. However, the damage appears to be far less serious than some feared with Hargreaves possibly able to return for part of Manchester United ‘s Christmas programme.
Ferguson confirmed to Mancheter radio station Key 103, “We were at the stage where we knew Owen’s knee was okay.
“His training performances for eight or nine days previously had been terrific.
“He had done really well, which is why we took the chance.
“But maybe the tension in the build-up for the lad was too much and he suffered because of it.”
