Manchester United’s prospects of winning at Eastlands on Wednesday night took a turn for the worse after news emerged that several members of the Red Devils squad have a virus which could see them miss the match.
Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Dimitar Berbatov and Paul Scholes are all believed to have been struck by the bug, with Nani and Ryan Giggs already ruled out of the clash through injury.
The illness swept through United’s training ground complex after the squad returned from their match against Bursaspor last week and Sir Alex Ferguson had admitted that the situation looks bleak.
“It is not a great position for us to be in. We are counting heads at the moment,” he said.
