Fernando Torres has finally put an end to all the speculation surrounding his future and committed himself to Liverpool.
The striker returned to pre-season training on Monday after weeks of rumours that suggested he was seeking a new challenge with Chelsea being the front-runners for his signature. But the World Cup winner has now pledged his allegiance to the Merseyside club which will be relief to both the club’s management and supporters.
“I am really happy to be back, really happy to stay with all my teammates,” said Torres in is first public statement on the issue and manager Roy Hodgson will hope that that will dissuade any suitors for making overtures to the player.
Torres added: “My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed.”
