Chelsea have set Taye Taiwo in their sights with a view to a January move for the Olympique Marseille left-back, according to Italian reports.
The Tutto Mercato Web site says Chelsea face competition for the 25-year-old from Inter Milan and Beyern Munich.
Taiwo’s contract with Marseille expires at the end of the season, meaning if he doesn’t sign a new deal, the French outfit would rather cash in on him in January than risk him walking away for nothing next summer.
Taiwo is a powerhouse of a left-back with a thunderous left-foot shot, which has been clocked at over 130 km/h.
He has improved his technique at Marseille, but his main quality is still his athleticism. He is strong, good in the air and quick – a huge asset going forward.
His defensive positional sense does have room for improvement though.
He is valued at €10M-15M.
