Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti ruled out bringing in any new players in the January transfer window. The Italian manager insisted he did not wish to bring in any reinforcements unless injuries forced him to do so. Unlike other managers, Ancelotti is satisfied with his current squad and does not think he will have to ask Blues owner Roman Abramovich to provide funds for the upcoming transfer window.
The Italian coach is preparing for his sides clash with Spartak Moscow in the Champions League tonight. The Blues already visited the Russian side at their home and won 2-0, they now host the side at Stamford Bridge. The Italian manager insisted that he wasn’t worried and said that his squad was good enough to survive until the end of the season.
Ancelotti quelled rumours of the Blues chasing Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, saying that he already had too many first class players in his squad. He said apart from the older, experienced players, he was very hopeful of the younger players in his squad. Salomon Kalou and Gael Kakuta are slowly emerging as excellent for the squad and Ancelotti believes he will not require the services of Torres.
He told reporters, “I always said that Torres is not our aim for the future because we have trust in a lot of young players. We also have fantastic strikers in Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou. We also have fantastic young players like Daniel Sturridge and Gael Kakuta. So, in this moment, we don’t really need to have a striker, a fantastic striker, like Fernando Torres.”
The Italian said that he was confident his side could compete in all the major competitions as long as there were no injuries, “We can be competitive in all competitions with this squad. The most important thing is to avoid injury, when possible. We have to maintain the squad with all the players fit. This is the most difficult thing to do, but we’re trying and working hard to do this, to control the recovery of the players.”
Ancelotti said that he wanted all his players to be fresh and up for the challenge as they get set to host Spartak Moscow at Stamford Bridge. This game will be important in determining who will finish top of the group. He said, “I want to be sure that the players who will be involved in the game tomorrow will be fresh. If everyone stays fit we won’t need anyone else. I think we have a fantastic squad.”
Ancelotti said while talking of the injuries, “Malouda has an ankle problem. He twisted it in the last game and had a scan yesterday. He will have another one today but we don’t think it’s a big problem. It was a little twist. I hope he will be ready for the game at Liverpool. Lampard and Benayoun will be out, and Bosingwa has not felt well and did not train, so he’s not available.”
According to Ancelotti Malouda will not be fit to feature in the Champions League fixture tonight because of a ankle problem, but the Blues manager is confident that the player will be fit to face Liverpool in the Premier League over the weekend. The same goes for Frank Lampard, who is expected to be fully fit for the Liverpool fixture on Sunday.
